Subject: #7 12/14/06 update on Mom

We talked to Dr. Dj, who is Mom's resident doctor.  He continues to talk about the improvements Mom makes, ever so slight as they are.  But he spent as much time talking about the few negatives, which are all of grave consequence.  We felt the need to pack our children into the van & head south.

Morgan had committed to a church play, performed during the mass for Our Lady of Guadalupe.  Tom & I have been attempting to cover for Mom not being able to attend mass.  So with our families we attended this mass, leaving directly to see Mom after mass, at 8 p.m.

Since we'd all worked at our various tasks throughout the day, we opted for a hotel in North Platte, only 250 miles from home, but 3 hours closer to Mom.  We hit the road again at 7.  We plan to be in St Francis Hospital by 5.

From this mornings conversation with Dr. Dj, we have learned that Mom is once more trying to make small improvements.  She has taken her first breath in 2 weeks.  We are torn apart by the contrast between her tiny improvements & her extensive setbacks.  Five o'clock is so far away.

 12-15-06 Update

This is Debbie.   We did make it to Tulsa by about 5:30 last night.   One of our biggest fears and a miracle were waiting for us.  When we got to St.  Francis, we were greeted by Mom's sister Barbara and her husband Johnny.    They had been here since 10:00 Thursday morning.    Barbara said that Theresa was responding to her voice and looked much better than last week.    Tom & Val visited Theresa and then two by two the rest of us were able to see her.   She was very quick to look at us and did quite a bit of smiling (as best that she could with the ventilator tubes) and when we talked to her she responded with her eyes.  There is no questions that she knows we are here and that we have not mentioned Bob.   We were also told that she is breathing a few more breaths of her own.    Tom & Val talked to Dr. DJ but her urged them not to tell her about Bob because he felt it would but her under too much stress.   I'm wondering what he thinks she is going through now???.     We decided to get a hotel room and then talk about what to do over dinner.    We (when I say we I mean Tom, Val, Shaun, Morgan, Kaleb, Tyler and myself) decided that Theresa needs to know about Bob.  Even though I'm sure she already does she needs to hear the words.  We had intentions of letting her go once we got down here but that is where the miracle came in.    THe decision to be with Bob or all of us will rest in her hands.    Tom & Val have already left for the hospital this morning and have made the decision to let her know.    They will also ask her what her wishes are.    If she decides to stay with us, they are going to go ahead and have the trach put in her neck.   If that is the case, we are going to make a trip to Lane/Atoka to put two crosses instead of three along the highway.   If she decides to go with Bob & TJ, we are going to say our goodbyes and put the remainder of her life in God's hands.
