Crash claims second victim. A second
person has died as a result of a pickup-car accident in Atoka
County.
Mary F. Thurman, 65, of Antlers died late Wednesday at
Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said. She was
injured about 5 p.m. Wednesday in the crash a half-mile east of Lane on State
Highway 3.
Thurman was a passenger in a pickup driven by Amber A.
Brown, 16, of Rattan. Brown attempted to pass a tractor-trailer in a no-passing
zone and her vehicle collided with a car driven by Robert S. Morgan, 65, of
Burns, Wyo. Morgan was pronounced dead at Atoka Memorial
Hospital.
His wife, Theresa V. Morgan, 62, was taken to Saint
Francis, where she was listed in critical condition. Brown was listed in good
condition at Valley View Hospital in Ada.
The patrol said the
accident occurred in rain, and all those involved wore seat belts.
We did not get to see mom today. Last night we
stayed in Atoka. We drove down to Atoka to make arrangements for
dad. A very good and nice man that owns the funeral home helped us out
with a lot of things we did not know. He was also nice anuff to help out
with TJ and held him tell we got there to pick him up this morning. We
paid our last respects to dad and took TJ to a vet in Durant OK. for
cremation. We will pick him up Monday on our way back to mom.
After we left TJ we made ourselves sit down and
eat for only the second time since Wednesday night. After that we
headed south to Dallas were Tom's boss' friend &
brother of his boss met us so we could drop off the rental car. (We are
grateful to the personnel at Hertz in Tulsa. They picked up the extra
costs of insurance, second driver, & the drop off in another
city.) Chris drove us to Uncle Francis' home, near Mom's
house.
Mom began her day having had a good night. But today has
not been good for her. Her kidneys are not functioning properly. She
is currently on kidney dialysis. There is a chance her kidneys will begin
to function again. The drainage tube was added to her gall bladder.
She has been put into a drug induced paralytic state, to try to re-inflate her
lung again. She will be this way for a few days.
Mom is stable, but still in critical condition. Tom
& I are exhausted. It has been a mind numbing experience, & we've
only just begun. For now, we will sleep. Perhaps later we can write
again. Thank you, for letting us share our troubles with you. ~ Val
