Mom spent much of the day sleeping. She thinks she slept
ok last night. I can't say, because I was in the motorhome. I had to
break ice on both the lock & the handle to get in. Guess this storm is
as bad as they said it would be! I couldn't figure out how it could be
snowing enough to fill my tracks when I made a quick trip back to the motorhome
this morning, cause it's really not snowing. The snow on the ground looks
normal. But I realized that walking through it just doesn't leave
tracks. This place is weird!
I did get up in time to be able to offer Mom breakfast. I talked her
into her Pear Sorbet, of which she ate almost three-quarters, at which point she
was full. She left behind her oatmeal & egg. She allowed me the
coffee, but I already had a cupful. You see, Mom can't start drinking
coffee until she turns 37. Been a lifelong rule for her. She says
that's when her Daddy started drinking coffee, & she figures she can wait
until she is the same age. That should be about 8 years from now.
Mom slept through lunch, and is now working on sleeping through
dinner. Call me naive, but I've determined they must use a mold to make to
food look so much like the menu says it is. Tonight she has pureed peas
waiting for her, & I'll be danged if they don't really look like peas!
Around 8 she woke up alert & hungry. She decided we would go eat
together, so when she got done with all the Raspberry Jello
(which was quite a bit) and Strawberry Yogurt she wanted, I ate the rest.
Pain meds after dinner must have been the cause of something I've
never witnessed before. Instead of sucking her cough medicine mixed with
grape juice up through the straw, Mom looked Nurse Tami straight in the eye
& blew bubbles into the cup.
A few medical things ... a new PIC, some blood pressure medicine. Her
Doppler scan yesterday showed no blood clots in any of her extremities.
The Leg Machine works her 3 times a day. She wants her legs stretched out
today. She settled for having them rubbed.
Today she rubbed lotion on her own hands, when I
put a dab in her right hand. She is holding her own cup of honey-thick
water & is able to put the straw in her mouth without having to guide it
with her other hand. Briefly, she spoke to Father John, and made the Sign
of the Cross.
I talked to Jana, Mom's nurse today, & while the hospital
can't take responsibility for personal possessions, she thought it would be ok
to leave Mom's Visitor's Journal in the window again. Sorry to those that
missed it, especially to Aunt Mary & Uncle John. But it should
be here for all future visits. We'd love to hear anything you'd like
to share with Mom.
And now, for Mom's big step of the day ....
Mom's 1st solo phone call!
While I am still working to get a website up &
going for Mom, I would like to give you a link I've previously
sent. This site has been updated, to include each of the emails we have
sent in the weeks since Mom moved into a hospital bed. As you may have
noticed, I talk a lot, so some of the emails have been lengthy.
Thank you Cat, for doing
this for Mom. HAWGSTOCK MOTORCYCLE

P.S. Mom would like to borrow some socks from Theresa Ward, her State
Farm Agent in Cheyenne. Don't ask me where she comes up with this stuff
... I just report it.
