Ah! To hear those words from Mom's
mouth! It took until 4 PM today.
Today's activities included a stint in
the neuro-chair. She is very dizzy sitting in the chair, so meals are
still taken in bed. But yes, she continues to eat more, although she is
still leery of making herself sick.
Her eyesight does appear to have
changed. Lying in bed, Mom can read the board across the room. I
stepped it off & figure it is every bit of 7 feet. She read a
handwritten note about an inch high that says 'Att: Nurses'. She asked if
it was Wilma Shafto's handwriting. I didn't think it was! Then
I asked her if she could read the date written on the board. She
did. She was trying to remember what happened on this
date. Recently she had told me the order in which my oldest cousins
were born, & I asked her about that. She said Kevin's birthday had
been on the 8th. By the way, Mom is near-sighted.
Today Sister Catherine came to see Mom,
& as is her style, she steered me to the cafeteria to eat! During my
breakfast, our conversation turned to books, specifically those written
by Louis L'Amour. She took me to meet Sister Mary Rosanna, then
Sister Catherine grinned as discussed those books we had enjoyed most.
Through the conversation, I did learn that there is a lending library here at
the hospital. If I ever need to find a loving home for extra books, I will
know where to turn. Next time Mom needs something to read, I won't have to
worry about what is in stock at the Gift Shop.
Mom was visited today by a local
member of CMA (Christian Motorcyclists Association).
It is a great comfort to meet people who care enough to visit a hospital to meet
a patient they've never known before. We discussed bikes & I bragged
about the folks a bit, then he was kind enough to say a prayer with Mom &
I.
Dr. Katsis was quite surprised that Mom
talked to him a good bit this evening, & told her it was the most she'd ever
spoken to him. She said she was sorry
. She asked if she could
soak her feet, & while it probably isn't possible, he'll check. And he
will check to see how much longer she had to wear her neck brace.
He made
arrangements for Mom to have a new flying trapeze above her bed, offering her
the opportunity to move herself around the bed a bit more. She's also
gonna be building muscles while she does it!
Mom has been given a prayer shawl &
smiled when I read the "Letter from a Skien of Yarn" & then the prayer that
came with the shawl. I had to take a picture of Mom with her shawl, to
show how much it brings out her beauty! (I couldn't get the color correct
. The shawl is a
beautiful purple, the pillow is white, Mom is flesh colored.)
I will let Mom end today's email.
When Tom talked to Mom on the phone this evening, I heard her telling him
something that will stick with me. We are children of a woman
