Although it was once more difficult getting Mom into the
wheelchair, she did arrive there, & took a leisurely stroll around the
corridor today. She was in good spirits & had some good laughs with
the staff. She did tell me she did not ride in the Mom-&-Baby
wheelchair I rode in on Monday!
Mom tells us the cast has come off her left foot, and the boot
has taken it's place. She could walk on that leg now, but her foot has
become paralyzed in the wrong position. Exercise will work her foot back into the proper position & she should be able
to use it.
She has an air mattress, relieving the pressure on her
buttocks, so her bed sores are going away.
Karen J., Mom's social worker, has called to tell us Mountain Towers has
accepted Mom. They are waiting on a pre-authorization from her insurance,
and then plans will be in the works to find her transportation. It looks
like she will move tomorrow. But if that falls through, it could be
Tuesday, since Monday is a Holiday (bet you thought I'd forget that, since I'm
not working & all!)
Just so you can see how quick this all changes, I'm
not going to revise the above paragraph. Tom has been speaking with Karen
O., of TriWest (Mom's insurance) & she tells Tom that they don't want to
move Mom to Cheyenne. They will decide where she goes, in network
& close to her Primary Care, which is currently DHMC.
Mom is supposed to see Dr Ozer on Wednesday, to
check on her free-flap. After that time, she will not be scheduled to see
any of her primary physicians for approximately 4 weeks, when they begin her
bone graft. Karen O believes (as we would agree) that Mom should wait
until after her appointment with Dr Ozer before moving. Karen J is telling
us that DHMC is turning away patients because they are over-full.
Karen J is recommending we move Mom to Mountain
Towers in Cheyenne for a couple reasons. Once moved, she stays at that
facility. And, Mom has expressed in no-uncertain-terms, that she wants to
come back to Wyoming during this time.
We won't be hearing anything until about 10
tomorrow morning. And it could be something totally different from what we
are preparing for! This is not the first time we've experienced such
uncertainty over what is happening!
So for now, we are waiting in limbo ~ Val & Tom
