Subject: 2/19/07 Finally something has happened!
Oh HAPPY DAY!!!!
Mom moved back to Wyoming today!  It has been 86 days since the accident, and a mammoth journey for all of us, but most of all for Mom.  Each day she heals, physically & in her soul.  But she has not topped her mountain.  We are grateful for the opportunity to still have our Mother to share this painful journey with.  Ahead of Mom, the sun will shine over her mountain & she will be able to find peace and health.  She is an incredible miracle to us.

Yesterday, Tom & Debbie went to Denver, & were there to speak with both Dr Ozer & Dr Morgan.  Mom's free flap is progressing nicely.  She still has significant ligature damage in both knees, but she will have to recover from most everything else before they can do anything about the ligaments.  (Mom says 'When it rains, it snows".)   She is to meet with Dr Ozer in one month.
Off the subject, I was not able to go to Denver yesterday, because I had an appointment with Dr Basta about my broken leg.  She removed the bandaging and the 13 stitches, & had X-rays taken.  My leg is healing just as she wanted & I now have a removable splint.  I can finally scratch, wash, & scratch my leg!  I still can't drive , but I have an appointment in a month.
Back to Mom.  She would enjoy visitors.  She is still HIGHLY susceptible to infection.  An infection at this point would probably still cost her that right leg.  So we ask that you use common sense in visiting, but do visit if you get the chance.
As I've sort of talked about before, now that Mom is healing, she isn't on the pain medications like before, & she is now turning to the task of mourning the loss of Dad.  She is only beginning the process that we put on hold nearly 3 months ago, and have yet to deal with ourselves .
If it gets to be too much, she'll let you know.  But please don't pretend like Dad didn't exist.  He was the hugest influence in our lives, and we plan to keep it that way.  So please don't be afraid to talk about him (and of course, TJ).  Shedding tears over the loss of such a loved one is a natural healing process we each go through.

Mom's sister, Barbara Ann, sent this.  It is appropriate and appreciated:

Life is short
Break the rules
Forgive quickly
Kiss slowly
Love truly
Laugh uncontrollably
And never regret anything that made you smile.

Mom is in Mountain Towers in Cheyenne.  We plan to keep a very close eye on her .  We can visit, and hopefully many of her friends can also.
Mountain Towers is located at 3128 Boxelder Drive and their phone is (307)634-901.  The doors are open from 7 AM (?) until 9 PM.
Mom is in room 105B, and you can get directions at the 1st floor Nurses Station.   You can call her at the number listed above & they will connect you with her room.  Mom also has her cell phone back.  She is a little difficult to understand/hear on the phone, because she is still working on one vocal cord.  She keeps most of her phone calls short because of this.

We feel like we've made great steps in having Mom in Wyoming, but she says nothing is different.  Go figure!  We'll have to see if we can't get her in a wheelchair & take her out to breath some good clean home-spun air!  She'll recognize this little breeze right soon!  ~ Val & Tom
