Subject: 3/5/07 Ultrasound
results are finally back
Good news. The ultrasound results are negative. It
appears her breast is just bruised (must be a heck of a bruise). I'm not
sure what caused the bruising. I know that her aorta surgery took place in
that vicinity. But my original thoughts where that Dad must have gotten
her with his elbow during the accident. Then too, TJ had been sitting on
her lap, so he may have contributed to that injury. I personally believe
(maybe just because I want to) that TJ helped to save Mom's life, taking some of
the brunt of the accident. I have to believe that everything happens for a
reason, and that from each thing, something good emerges. I just haven't
figured out how to rationalize much of what has happened as having a good side
to it.
Yesterday, Mom was looking for a phone number that was lost in
her last cell phone. I was able to get the information she wanted.
She only has about 30 numbers put back into her phone. Losing that phone
meant she lost contact information on so many people. We still haven't
figured out how to get her computer online at Mountain Towers. She wants
to read her email. She wants to check her bank accounts. It's just
such an important way for her to reach out to the world. I believe she has
given me permission to buy a wireless adapter. We just put one on Dewey's
computer in the truck (you remember ... the guy I had to teach how-to turn the
computer on!) I don't really know how to use it well, but I
know I'd be able to get her hooked up.
Mom took a shower today! She had to sit on a chair in
the shower of course. But she is getting to experience small
pieces life again.
Morgan & I were with her when she
had physical therapy on Saturday. She has so far to go. But she is
trying. She has to get herself into the wheelchair, as much as she is
able. It took quite some time. But she had a decent rest as we then
went all the way to the 'gym' to therapy. The gym reminds me a lot of a
kindergarten room, except that the stove is real.
Her therapy that day included lifting
weights. The 2 lb weights nearly exhausted her, & her therapist
switched to 1 lb weights. Watching her, I realize how much we for
granted in our daily lives. There was an exercise with clothespins, which
she accomplished with her right hand, but by the time she used her left hand,
she was pooped. Next time, she gets to start with the left! Mom was
always partial to doing things right-handed.
